Electric motors for use in potentially explosive dust atmospheres
Expanded area of application of the proven 4KTC series developed by BARTEC

Combustible dust, e. g. dispersed in the air, can create an explosive atmosphere. Electrical equipment operated in this atmosphere can act as potential source of ignition and ignite this atmosphere. To guarantee the safety of people, plants and devices in this environment, electrical equipment has to fulfil the European safety requirements (Directive 94/9/EC) and has to be developed and manufactured in accordance with special standards.
Electric motors are often applied under hard working conditions.

Individual solutions are our standard - Flameproof immersion electrical motors

For electric drives used for example in waste water equipment in sewage systems electrical motors not only have to be protected for operation in explosive hazardous areas, but also must work under water. On the one hand, the releasing explosive gases form an explosive atmosphere, on the other hand, the equipment gets flooded in the event of greater water influx. BARTEC disposes of a electrical motors series for these extreme conditions constructed with protection type “Flameproof enclosure” (EEx d). The Ex motors additionally have mechanical protection IP68 for underwater operation.

Series 4KTS electrical motors are completely sealed, absolutely watertight, without a fan, made from quality gray casting. The permissible motor immersion depth is 12 m, with no time limits. Although these motors have no cooling system of their own, they are dimensioned to operate in standard duty cycles from S1 to S10. Integration of temperature sensors enables running such motors through a frequency converter in the 25 to 60 Hz range. The EEx d motors (series 4KTS) are ATEX certified (PTB 02 ATEX 1141).

The increasingly demanding technology calls for specific versions of motor drives in explosively hazardous areas. BARTEC successfully follows this trend by offering a broad array of specialty electrical motors in addition to the standard models:

  • Direct entry electrical motors
  • Marine motors
  • Motors with brakes
  • Motors with encoders
  • Motors with forced cooling running with frequency converters at lowrates of speed

All of our electrical motors including the mentioned above specialty versions have been ATEX certified.
